Violence in Southern Lebanon is escalating – Caritas Switzerland is delivering humanitarian aid

Your donation for the people affected in Lebanon

Attacks by the Israeli military have killed and injured hundreds of people in Southern Lebanon and forced thousands of people to leave their homes. Caritas Switzerland has local employees working on the ground and is now stepping up its humanitarian aid.

For many months now, the firing of rockets by both Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has resulted in civilian casualties and large numbers of internally displaced persons on both sides. The violence is escalating all the time. Caritas Switzerland strongly condemns this violence. During this armed conflict, the civilian population is suffering acutely; thousands of people are having to leave their homes.

Caritas is stepping up its humanitarian aid

Lebanon has been suffering from an intensifying economic, political and social crisis for many years. Around half of the population are living in poverty. The current escalation in violence is worsening the situation for millions of people, there is a huge and growing need for aid. That is why Caritas is expanding its projects and stepping up the emergency aid it is delivering.

Medical support

We are working together with our partners to support civilians affected by the conflict with medical aid. People with health problems and without health insurance are being supplied with medication and are receiving outpatient treatment. Individuals with specific health needs are receiving additional support with the costs of in-patient treatment being covered and further grants being provided.

In addition, we are delivering psychosocial counselling for vulnerable children and adults and those in distress, and holding awareness-raising events about mental health issues. To ensure that these people receive the best possible support, employees from our partner organisations are being trained to look after people with trauma.

Material and financial aid

We are also distributing warm clothing and blankets. And we are providing one-off and monthly cash assistance payments so that families can cover their basic needs and pay for what they need most urgently – whether it is food, clothing or temporary accommodation.

Strong partnership

We are working closely with Caritas Lebanon to deliver this emergency aid and are also partnering in some cases with the non-profit organisation Amel. Altogether, around 12,000 people are being supported through ongoing projects.
