Promoting economic stabilization in Ukraine through market analysis

The approach behind our REMARKET project

Understanding local markets and gaining as much knowledge about them as possible is crucial to long-term economic stabilization in Ukraine. For this reason, we are currently applying the so-called «Market Systems Analysis» (MSA) in Ukraine. MSA is a comprehensive research method for identifying opportunities and risks in key economic sectors.

This method is at the heart of the REMARKET project, which we are implementing together with local partners. This project promotes the long-term reconstruction of livelihoods, improves people's lives, strengthens the local economy and unlocks new, untapped potential.

Studies in three key occupational fields

We are currently conducting market research in three key sectors – honey production, bakeries and the clothing industry – to determine how companies can flourish despite the challenges of war and displacement. By analyzing these three sectors, we ensure that our support can achieve a sustainable impact. Our goal is to promote resilient and inclusive markets that create jobs, foster entrepreneurship and attract private investment – both in Ukraine and in Switzerland.

For example, Ukraine's honey sector has great potential due to the country's long tradition of beekeeping and strong export demand. However, producers face challenges such as interrupted supply chains and a lack of access to new technologies. Through the MSA, we are working with beekeepers, buyers and foreign traders to improve production techniques, expand export opportunities and strengthen supply networks. Similar efforts are underway in the bakery and clothing industries, where small businesses and internally displaced persons are being supported.

The Ukraine Strategy

This evidence-based approach aligns directly with the Swiss government's Strategy for Ukraine (2025-2028), which prioritizes economic recovery, employment, and sustainable market development. By focusing on sectoral growth, we contribute to job creation, business resilience, and Ukraine's overall recovery efforts.

At Caritas, we are not just rebuilding – we are transforming. By providing market-oriented solutions, we are ensuring that Ukrainian businesses and workers not only recover, but thrive in a re-emerging economy.
